Better than fishin'!

You know those pictures that men love, the ones where they're holding up a huge fish and they have a big, silly grin on their face. Well, I don't fish, so I've never really understood the thrill of a big catch....until last week. After a year of watching a waiting, I finally harvested my root-crop garden. And, let me tell you, who would've known that digging up monster yams could be such a good time!

But, it wasn't just yams. My taro garden was also ready to be harvested. Here I am with three big taro roots. We eat the leaves regularly (they taste like spinach!), but this is the first time we've been able to eat the root. I made yummy taro cakes out of them.

So, if you're looking for a good time, come on over, we'll dig up yams! Wahoo!

My Little Seamstress

Daisy loves to sew. She's been sewing little things by hand for a while now, but this Christmas she got a new little sewing machine, a sewing kit and some fabric. So, today, she helped me make a new kitchen curtain. I think we did a pretty good job. Then, when we were done with that project, she made her cabbage patch kid a new pillow - all by herself. I think that turned out pretty good too!!

Mommy feeding the fabric through the machine, and Daisy manning the pedal!
