The Garden

I love to garden. Which is strange, because I'm not that outdoorsy, but there's just something about gardening. I love the dirt and the seeds and the plants. I love seeing flowers bloom and vegetables grow. I love clipping and weeding and pruning. I love to garden.

My good friend, Amor, just planted an awesome garden. It's got 6 different kinds of veggies and root crops and even a fence to keep the chickens (and people) out! What makes her garden particularly special is her timing. Right now it's 'crisis-season', meaning, noone seems to have any food and stealing is at an all time high.  The village leaders even had a 'town meeting' to tell the people 'Plant stuff!!' And we've also been encouraging our brothers and sisters in the Lord to plant. The land here is the 5th best in the Philippines. Well, Amor, who already does an excellent job of feeding her family, took all that advice to heart, and this beautiful garden is the fruit of her labor!

Amor's garden. She's got chives and tomatoes, greens, taru, cabbage and sweet potatoes.

Ally and one of Daddy's giant sunflowers.

My beautiful petunias.

And of course, my favorite flower - Daisy.

Town Time

Just because 'town time' and 'down time' rhyme does NOT mean they are similar. Quite the opposite. Down time consists of relaxing and having nothing to do. Town time consists of trying to fit a week's worth of errands into a day and a half.

Town time happens every 4-6 weeks, when we make the trek from our beautiful mountain home to the bustling, hot, busy city to buy our supplies, run our errands, go to the doctor, go to the dentist, go to the post office, go to the lawyers office, etc.

Town time is not my favorite time....but, Hannah brought her camera this last trip to town, and after looking through her pictures I realized that town time has it's perks.

After all, McDonald's french fries only get eaten during town time. Our best clothes (and even make-up) get to be worn during town time. Town time is full of new sights, smells and even colors. Town time means seeing a movie, going to the park and buying kettle corn.

So, although it's a far cry from 'down time', even 'town time' is something to be thankful for!

People and vehicles, colors and noise, and of course, the craziest mess of electrical wires on the planet.

A family photo in the park!

Jollibee (Filipino version of McDonalds) with our beloved Inay and Amay.

For some of us, new discoveries - like french fries dipped in ketchup! And I quote, "Yum, yum!"
